Iran prepared to upgrade Afghan military

TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (MNA) – The defense ministers of Iran and Afghanistan held talks Saturday on defense cooperation and reconstruction of efforts in the eastern neighbor.

Defense minister Mostafa Mohammad Najar told his counterpart Abdul Rahim Wardak that Iran has always been on the side of Afghan people due to political, cultural, religious, and geopolitical merits.

“Development of ties with all Muslim and neighboring countries, especially the friendly and brotherly Afghanistan nation, is a foreign policy priority of the government of Dr. Ahmadinejad,”

Najar stated.

Iran considers peace and stability in Afghanistan as its own and according to this strategy it has been a supporter of peace in Afghanistan.

Tehran and Kabul have close relationship in terms of security and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan, the Iranian minister stated. Najar reiterated that Iran is willing to help its eastern neighbor to perpetuate peace and security.

The minister added the Iranian military is ready to train the Afghan Army.

The Afghan minister, for his part, said his nation will never forget the support of Iranian people and government in difficult days.

As Iran helped Afghanistan in times of war and insecurity it still needs Iran’s help for its economic, political, cultural and defense development, Wardak noted.
